Family Mission Statement

In one of our classes here at the Missionary Training Center, Aaron and I were required to come up with our "Family Mission Statement." We were to look at our family, our values, our goals, and our priorities and then come up with a statement that summarizes the vision we have for our family. What is our purpose? What do we hope to accomplish as a family? What is important to us as a family?

This was a really good assignment for us. It forced Aaron and I to talk with each other and articulate these things...what do we want in our relationship with God? With each other? What is our goal in raising our children? What do we want our family to be about?

It also really caused us to see the grace of God in our lives. If we would have done a Family Mission Statement eight years ago when we first got married, it would have looked nothing like this. God has delivered us from so many things over the past years, and by His grace, we have a more eternal perspective now than we did early in our marriage. We still have a ton of growing to do though, so I'm sure our mission statement will change and evolve even more over the next ten years!

But here it is. This is what we came up with. This is what we want our family to be about.

Our Family Mission Statement

With God
To walk in humility before God in such a way that we more readily yield to the Spirit’s work in our lives so that we can more fully know God and continually be more conformed to the likeness of Christ.

In our Marriage
To continually maintain a strong relationship in such a way that our marriage is a blessing to our ministry as opposed to a burden or hindrance so that we are free to minister in any way God desires.

In our Parenting
To raise our children in such a way that reveals to them their inherent need for a savior and the provision found in Christ Jesus so that they will have an opportunity to understand, believe, and embrace the Gospel message.

With our Children and Ministry
To shepherd our children in such a way that they are a blessing to our ministry as opposed to a burden or hindrance so that we are free to minister in any way God desires.

With Others
To love other people in such a way that evidences our faith in God and our regard for the value He places on them so that “they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.” (Matt. 5:16)

Great job on your mission statement. I can imagine it would be hard to come up with a statement like this.
