The Baby Book Dilemma

I don't do baby books. When Aaron and I were registering for baby items a little over a year ago and we got to the baby book section at Babies R Us, I started looking through the baby books and realized, "Wow. These look like a lot of work." I am not a "crafty" or "scrapbooky" (pretty sure that's not a word) type of person at all, and I was afraid that I would get a baby book and start it...but never finish it.

So instead of doing baby books for my children, I decided just to buy a picture album for each of them and simply take a few pictures of them each month on their "monthly birthday" with a sign that says how many months they are. I put the five or so pictures from each month in the album and then I type and print out a list of about 10-15 likes, dislikes, accomplishments, scheduling details, and fun facts about them from that month. Then I slip that list into one of the picture slots with the pictures from that month.

This has worked SO much better for me than filling in all of the pages of a baby book, and I just keep a running list on the computer each month of new things that my baby is doing that month. It's simple and easy and not time consuming. It has also been fun to look at the lists that I made for Ivy each month and compare them with what Israel is doing now, just nine months behind her.

So here are twelve of Ivy's monthly pictures in her album. I can't believe how fast she grew!

Just because you don't classify yourself as a scrapbooky or crafty sort of person does not mean that you aren't doing a good job of keeping your memories written of your babies! And the photo album of them seems so much more personal than a lot of baby books anyway- many of them seem "stiff" even if they are supposed to be "scrapbooky" :) I like the idea a lot and want to keep that in mind if I have children in the future!

Good job. It does give you a really good idea of how much she has changed.
