Another Hobby

I have always sort of teased (and at times been slightly annoyed with) Aaron for having SO MANY hobbies. Since we have been married, he has taken up hunting, raising chickens, woodworking, various sports, making beef jerky, canoeing, gardening (that one was both of us), and cheese-making. So last year when he said he was going to begin roasting his own coffee beans, I wasn't too thrilled. Another hobby to throw on the pile.

However...I have to say, this hobby is a pretty worthwhile one (and many of the other ones are too, don't get me wrong). But for the amount of time it takes (not very much), roasting your own coffee has some pretty great benefits. Well, mostly just two. It's a lot cheaper. And it's a lot more delicous.

So now we get our coffee in bags like this, instead of the little one pound bags you buy at the grocery.

Here's what the beans look like before they are roasted.

And using just a few homemade, hand-rigged pieces of equipment (that make it look like he's running a meth lab or something),

Aaron has perfected the art of coffee roasting.

Here's the finished product.

And I think Brandon approves.

:) Have a good weekend, everyone!
