A Toddler Misunderstanding

A conversation I had with Ivy recently:

Ivy: “Where’s Papa?”

Me: “He’s hunting.”

Ivy: “Where is he hunting?

Me: “Out in the woods.”

Ivy: “Why is he hunting?”

Me: “Well…if he sees a deer, he’s going to shoot it so that we can eat it.”

Ivy (after a long pause): “So…did he take a spoon with him?”

Me (laughing): “No, sweetheart, we would eat the deer meat later.”

Ivy: “Oh. So he’s just going to eat with his hands, then?”
