Hold the Ropes

Three days per week, we have time set aside in our training schedule to pray with our classmates for our fellow laborors--NTM missionaries who are already on the field.

It is a refreshing time to join with our brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for others... but it is also a sobering time. Just reading about some of the major, heavy prayer requests from those on the field reminds me that it is going to be hard. 

But our God is faithful and able. And it is so encouraging to think that there are going to be brothers and sisters in Christ sitting where we are sitting right now in five years, who will be praying for us on the field. It is humbling and also very comforting. 

This is not a job that can be done without prayer.

The name of this prayer time that we have several times a week is "Hold the Ropes." That name comes from this poem:

Down beneath the mighty ocean 

Divers plunge for treasures rare

But men hold the ropes above them 

So they breathe the upper air.

Seeking pearls of richest value 

Braver hearts have dared to go

But our hands must every moment 

Hold the ropes that reach below

So amid the heathen darkness 

There are heroes, true and brave,

Shrinking not from death or danger, 

Hearing all to help and save.

But they cry, “Oh, do not leave us, 

“Mid these dreadful depths to drown, 

“Let us feel your prayers around us, 

“Hold the ropes as we go down!”

If you are someone who is praying for us in our missionary journey, we want to say thank you. Thank you for holding the ropes for us. We feel and so appreciate your prayers.
